Breakfast at Clerkenwell Grind

I love the guys at Grind.

For those of you that don't know about Grind, essentially they're a family of coffee shops around London that focuses on good food, coffee and music (the original Grind in Shoreditch is also home to a recording studio). They play banging tunes whilst you munch on your avocado toast and sip your iced lattes - in short, they rock and I can't get enough of them. Just as well, as there's now seven of the branches dotted around London.

The latest addition to the Grind family is a more grown-up affair and it's completely a thing of interior dreams. If marble tables, pink velvet chairs and deep midnight blue walls are your thing then you need to pay them a visit, like, yesterday.

Clerkenwell Grind is an all-day dining affair which turns into a late night bar in the evening. Being an early morning riser, I'm always on the look out for new breakfast haunts and I think I've found it here.

Amber and I went along to sample the morning delights, beginning with a round of mint tea, cappuccino and juices. Go for the Amber juice - orange, carrot, lemon and ginger - it will set you up for the day. As with other Grind's, the menu is good and throws in all the crowd pleasers. Following the cliche, we favoured the Smashed Avocado (served with a poached egg and chilli flakes), adding an extra side of feta, and the French banana toast which came with what we decided made this dish a "healthy one": coconut frozen yogurt. Both predictably delicious, it was actually our third dish (which we shared) that got the most love from the table. The acai bowl, packed full with seeds and berries was a total hit. Somewhere between a yogurt and a smoothie, it played with our minds but yet we kept on coming back for more. Order it when you go, it's. so. tasty.

Finally, whatever you do, don't leave without paying a visit downstairs. Firstly to check out the chicest (and pinkest) toilets I've ever seen but also to swoon all over the bar. What's that I hear...?
